.: ASTD-Valley of the Sun Code of Ethics

As a member of the American Society for Training and Development, I will be guided by the statements that constitute this Code of Ethics. I recognize and accept this responsibility in accordance with the following professional Standards.

  1.  I will adhere to ASTD Policies, particularly:
    • When participating int he ASTD seminars, conferences, professional development workshops, meeting and other activities
    • When using ASTD identity of stationary, newsletters, and brochures
    • When participating in an election for an ASTD office
    • When representing ASTD in any capacity of when it could be interpreted that I represent the society
  2. I will recognize individual rights and opportunities, regardless of race, religion, national origin, sex, age, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation.
  3. I will commit myself to the maximum development of human potential.
  4. I will demonstrate a professional and ethical code of behavior in the conduct of all my Human Resource Development activities.
  5. I will keep abreast of pertinent, new knowledge in the field of Human Resources Development.
  6. I will accurately represent Human Resource Development activities to individuals, organizations, and/or employers.
  7. I will preserve confidentiality and integrity in the practice of my profession
  8. I will perform professionally in a manner that will bring credit to the Society.
  9. I will not engage in conduct that impedes the ability of my peers to practice their profession.

In addition to the standards common to all Society members, National members holding elected or appointed positions in the Society will be guided by the following leadership principles:

  • Leaders may not solicit or receive anything of value pursuant to an expressed or implied understanding that their official actions or judgment would thereby be influenced.
  • Leaders shall not use their position or the Society's funds for personal gain.
  • Leaders may not disregard the interests of the Society where use of their positions or official conduct would suggest the seeking of financial gain, or unwarranted benefits, advantages, or privileges for themselves of for any business with which they are associated.

The violation of ASTD Policy of a provision of the Code of Ethics by an ASTD member may result in termination or suspension of membership, a censure, or other disciplinary action.
